TRANSPORT bosses have stepped in to save a bus route linking Prestwich and Bury with North Manchester General Hospital.
The intervention comes after bus operator JP Travel decided to re-route its 152 service.
Now, a new 154 service, funded by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority will be operated by Bu-Val Buses from Monday (July 26).
The service will run hourly during Monday to Saturday daytime, linking Bury with Pilsworth, Unsworth, Prestwich, Carr Clough, Kersal, North Manchester General Hospital and Cheetham Hill
Councillor Roger Jones, authority chairman, said: "Given the high level of patronage on the 152, it's disappointing that the operator felt minded to stop serving North Manchester General Hospital, inconveniencing patients, staff and visitors alike."
He said it had been estimated that the changes to the 152 service would have hit around 300 passengers a day who would no longer be directly served by the new route.
"I am pleased we have been able to step in and provide a new bus service for these people," he added.
Leaflets with details of the new and revised services are now available from Bury Travelshop or by ringing (0161) 242 6040. Passengers can also call Greater Manchester's public transport information line on 228 7811 for further information.
