SATURDAY was a good day for Brooksbottoms, after the frustrations of the previous week, the rain became their best friend.

With all other games in the division washed out, Brox's visito to the relative outpost of Warrington fo face struggling Rylands offered them the chance to take outright second place.

Not that the elements didn't interfere at Rylands as well.

Fortunately, the skies cleared early enough to allow a 35 overs a side match in which Brox performed a ruthless demolition job on the home side.

The Summerseat men won the toss and, in a change from their preferred option, asked Rylands to bat.

The home batsmen made a solid start but once Pellowe had got the better of an interesting duel with Knowles, Brox tightened their grip.

The run rate had been slowed dramatically, due largely to a miserly spell from captain Ernill and as the middle and late order tried to bring some momentum in the latter over, the inspirational skipper and trusted cohort, Brown, filled their boots.

In picking up the last six wickets in as many overs at the death, Brox also claimed the bonus point for bowling the opposition out.

Earlier in the season Brox might have been a little apprehensive in chasing a small target of 123 for victory.

Not on this occasion however, with Armsbey batting with his customary swagger and Hawley setting the visitors on course for a comfortable win.

Hawley's effortless 75, off only 61 balls, was just the tonic for Brox who eased past the mark for the loss of three wickets and more than ten overs in hand.
