NO action is to be taken over what is claimed to be a 'dangerous' section of the A666 - because it doesn't rate as an accident hotspot.
The section of Blackburn Road, outside Darwen Vale High School, was highlighted recently after a cement mixer overturned shortly before 900 children were due to exit.
Graham Carter, of the Lower Darwen Road Safety Panel, was so concerned, he wrote to the Chief Constable. His letter found its way back to Inspector Graham Ashcroft, at Darwen, who called on Mr Carter to discuss the problem.
But the outcome left him disappointed.
Mr Carter said: "The police work on statistics and look at whether anyone's been seriously injured or died there. Based on this, it was decided that particular part of Blackburn Road was not an accident hotspot.
"But there have been accidents there and I just wonder how many bad accidents we must have before someone is killed.
"I won't be leaving it here, it's an accident waiting to happen. I hope to have a meeting at Darwen Vale in the new term. I know the headteacher has concerns about it."
Inspector Ashcroft said: "There are speed restrictions in two places close to where the accident occured but there will always be occasions of driver error which you can't legislate for.
"If the meaning of accident hotspot is somewhere where we get problems, yes we could describe this section as an accident hotspot. We have had a number of injury accidents here over the years.
"But wherever you get a main road with a mixture of traffic and pedestrians, you usually find accidents."
