Bury 0 Wigan Athletic 4: BURY manager Graham Barrow is looking for a major improvement from his team after they crashed to a pre-season defeat against their neighbours.
Two goals each from Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington ensured a comfortable win for Paul Jewell's Championship division side against an injury-hit Shakers team.
But Barrow was unhappy with the quality of his side's passing, as they failed to build on Wednesday night's 0-0 draw with Manchester City - and is expecting more when they take on Blackburn Rovers behind closed doors this week.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game, and that's what we got," the manager said.
Bury went behind after 27 minutes when Colin Woodthorpe conceded a penalty by fouling Roberts.
Trialist keeper Greg Smith saved Roberts' penalty, but the Wigan striker followed up to tap in the rebound. Roberts scored a second penalty eight minutes later after Ellington had been upended.
The Latics went three up just before half-time, when the unmarked Ellington nodded in Jimmy Bullard's cross from six years.
And the former Bristol Rovers striker grabbed his second four minutes after the break when a defensive mix-up presented him with a chance to score from 10 yards out.
