BLACKBURN Rovers have quashed reports linking Graeme Souness with a surprise move for Robbie Fowler.
Several sources have claimed that a deal to bring the Manchester City striker to Ewood Park is 'imminent.'
But as I understand it, Souness is NOT interested in signing the former Liverpool hit-man, who he launched on the road to fame and fortune when he was the manager of the Anfield giants.
Nevertheless, Rovers are still looking to bring in an experienced striker before the start of the new season.
And if Wigan sign Andy Todd later week then Souness would use any cash from that sale to boost his fire-power.
Latics boss Paul Jewell is thought to be preparing a new bid to sign Todd, who's surplus to requirements at Ewood Park.
Rovers want around £600,000 for the 29-year-old and if Jewell comes in with a sensible offer then the former Bolton and Charlton player could be heading to the JJB Stadium before the end of the month.
Souness has made it clear that Todd no longer features in his future plans, particularly now that Dominic Matteo has been signed from Leeds United.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa manager David O'Leary has rubbished reports claiming he's interested in signing Dwight Yorke.
Yorke was left behind when Rovers went to Germany for a pre-season tour but O'Leary insists there's no chance of the 32-year-old returning to Villa Park.
"To be fair, that surprises me." said O'Leary, referring to the speculation.
"Dwight Yorke hasn't been mentioned to me at all.
"But I tell you Dwight Yorke won't be coming here under my management."
Rovers Reserves made it two wins out of two under Tony Parkes when they beat Stalybridge Celtic 5-0 at the weekend.
Matt Derbyshire scored twice, while Neil Danns, Jemal Johnson and an own goal completed the rout.
Tickets are now on sale for Rovers' friendly with Sporting Lisbon a week on Wednesday.
