RESIDENTS' requests to transform derelict land in Nelson into a play area look set to fall on deaf ears when councillors meet next week.
The Nelson Committee will be presented with a report from the parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation department of Pendle Council investigating the feasibility of turning land at the rear of Brunswick Street into a multi-use game area.
It follows a petition by residents who lobbied the council for the area to be transformed. In May the committee requested a report be drawn up looking at the cost of building the area.
The report, which councillors will discuss when they meet at Nelson Town Hall on Monday, says the land which is covered in masonry is not council-owned and would cost £270,000 to buy and develop and nearly £4,000 per year to maintain.
It is recommended the proposal is reconsidered when funds become available.
