A BURNLEY magistrate is appealing for more recognition for Lancashire volunteers after three groups received awards for their services to the community.
Susan Hughes, chairman of the advisory panel for the Queen's Golden Jubilee Award, is leading a campaign to reward more Lancashire-based unsung heroes in the 2005 awards.
Mrs Hughes, of Higham, said: "I would like to see more Lancashire groups receiving awards next year.
"That is why I am urging the public to fill in an application form now recommending organisations that they feel are worthy of this prestigious honour."
Volunteer groups Sahara, of Preston, St John's Hospice, of Lancaster and the PIP Project, of Poulton-le-Fylde, all received a Queen's Golden Jubilee Award in a presentation at County Hall, Preston on July 12.
Mrs Hughes added: "Voluntary work is a vital part of any local community and the recognition of these local groups reflects this."
Nominations for the 2005 awards must be made before September 30. For an application form contact Ian Johnston on 01772 533 364 or email ian.johnston@css.lancscc.
