AN 18-MONTH-OLD water baby swam a sponsored breadth to help his toddler friend. Lee Fishwick, of Godiva Street, Burnley, swam his first recorded breadth and raised £200 for the Joshua Fawcett computer appeal. The money was given to Joshua, three, of Woodbine Road, Burnley to provide better equipment for the child with cerebral palsy to communicate with his family. Lee, who first swam at 11 months, received his first swimming certificate for the achievement at Gannow pool, Burnley.

DISCO DANCING superstars of the North West competed to make a name for themselves on the small screen. Film crews from Granada aired an edited version of the competition held at Blackburn nightspot Romeo's and Juliet's - chosen from clubs all over the North West. The winner received £100 and was entered for the Regional, UK and World finals at the Empire, London, with prizes up to £10,000.

THOUSANDS of Rossendale holidaymakers sending postcards home forgot to put a stamp on, according to the post office. Postcards and parcels were flowing through Rossendale but many without the correct stamps. Mr M Hilton, Rossendale's head postmaster, said the office had handled 10,338 postcards and many had the wrong stamp on or none at all.
