I THINK fining parents who take their children on holiday in term time is all wrong (LET, July 23).
When I was a working midwife we had to have our holidays on a rota basis.
Very rarely did mine fall during the school holidays. No doubt many other people are in the same position today.
So what do people who work all year do? Not have a holiday? Get childminders and go without them?
Genuine reasons for taking children on a two-week holiday should be allowed - at least once a year.
This won't adversely affect the child's future, and will keep the family happy as a unit.
There seems to be a big brother culture now of - if you don't do as I say - you'll be fined!
There is no reasoning behind such decisions and fining parents is definitely wrong.
Holiday firms will further cash in - as now holidays during school holidays are at a premium. They should average their prices out over the year - or better still - fine them if they don't.
