WIGAN Council is to consider 18 applications from the Post Office to site18 Royal Mail postal pouch boxes in Leigh and Tyldesley.
The secure boxes are placed at convenient points to store mail for postmen to pick up and deliver on their rounds.
A PO spokesman said: "The Royal Mail used to use secure houses but these placed an onus on the people accepting the bags."
If the go-ahead is given they will be placed on land adjacent to 9A, Holt Street; 317, Wigan Road; 79, The Avenue; Moss Bank Nurseries, Hooten Lane; 302, Holden Road; Drummond Way; St John's CE Infants' School; Kirkhall Lane; Hope Street and Chestnut Drive South, all Leigh.
In Tyldesley planned spots include land adjacent to 85, Chester Road; 2, Chalfont Drive; 2 Shearwater Avenue; junction of Higher Green Lane and Manor Road, Astley; Tyldesley Swimming Baths, 26, Wycombe Drive; junction Glenview Road and Shakerley Road; 51, Sunnybank Road, and 1 Melton Close.
