WHEN they read about a cancer group's hard fund raising work keen gardeners Rod and Marian Raines offered their help.
The couple, members of the National Gardens Scheme which opens up to the public for charity days, have organised a day in aid of Christies.
Their beautiful gardens at Longfield Bungalow, Leigh Road, Hindley Green, will be on view from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, August 1. Admission is £1.50 adults, children free, and there will be balloon race and home made refreshments.
Wigan and Leigh Christies Against Cancer secretary Maureen Thorpe said: "We were delighted when Rod and Marian offered to open just for us. The gardens are absolutely beautiful, well worth a visit."
Christie's appeal organisers invited members of the group to help their fund boosting at the big Tatton Park Flower Show in Cheshire last week.
Chairman Carl Sharpe and his wife Pat, Brian Lowe and Maureen were amazed that their bucket rattling raised £1,800 in a few hours on Wednesday afternoon.
