DOGS of all shapes and sizes took centre stage at Astley and Tyldesley Running Dog Club show on the sports fields at Gin Pit village.
A wet start to the weekend didn't deter country sports fans who came from as far afield as Scotland, Wales, Devon, the North East and Midlands for the club's eighth whippet, terrier, lurcher and ferret show which featured working dog displays and racing.
Saturday's show judges were father and daughter Albert and Sarah Radcliffe and Sunday's races were for the Top Ten points in the British Whippet racing Association championship.
Organiser and sponsor Keith Woodward said afterwards: "It was a pity about the rain early on Saturday but it was a good weekend. We'd like to thank sponsors Tyldesley Tyres, P & R Salvage, Adams Garage, John Mansley, Gibfield Garage van sales, Diane and Derek Hilton and Kensite."
Donations from the proceeds will go to St John Ambulance, Samuel's Boxes ( a charity for terminally ill children), The British Whippet Racing Federation and the Union of Country Sports.
Racing is held Wednesdays from 6.30pm at the Gin Pit club.
