FOUR East Lancashire students have jetted off on an American adventure thanks to Blackburn brewers Daniel Thwaites.
Blackburn duo David Jarmany, 18, and Rebecca Godbold, 17, who attend St Mary's College and St Wilfrids' Sixth Form respectively, along with Megan Taylor, of Accrington, and Ben Robinson, of Padiham, both 18, have flown out to New Orleans on a two-week trip sponsored by the Thwaites' Travel Scholarship.
Under the supervision of Rishton group leaders Gillian Foster and Christine Turner, the foursome will form part of a 12-strong team made up of students plucked from all over the county, that will take in much of the cultural diversity of the city while spending time living and working alongside some of the local people.
Thwaites has been funding the Travel Scholarship for 44 years and Blackburn Mayor Coun David Foster is more familiar with the project than most.
He said: "By coincidence, I myself was part of a Thwaites Scholarship back in 1968 when we visited Tennessee. I remember it being an enjoyable and truly worthwhile experience and I'm sure today's scholars will make the most of their adventure."
