BURY'S second team got off to an easy start to their Summer League campaign when their first match opponents Eccles defaulted the match.
Attention turned to the club Summer Championship, which this year is played on a time handicap.
Generally the better players have been dealing with their time deficits safely, but occasional surprises have included a tremendous game by Roger Nuttall, with 29 minutes for the match, against top seed John Altham, with 10 minutes.
But John just managed to hang on and Roger had to settle for a draw. In the other Group, John Grindrod has scored well against the top seeds, winning against Bernard Sharples, and drawing against Mick Norris.
The leaders are -
Group 1: John Altham with 3.5 from 4, Keith Evans 3/3, and Lee Baron 3/5.
Group 2: Bernard Sharples 4/5, John Grindrod 4/5, Mick Norris 2.5/3, and Martin Bryant 2.5/5.
The Club meets at Bury Sports Club on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and visitors are welcome.
