'SO far so good,' is the reaction of Ramsbottom United's new manager, Derek Egan.
With the new season still a couple of weeks away he still has time to tinker with both personnel and tactics, which exactly what he intends to do.
However, after beating Clitheroe with a Matt Swailes goal after 27 minutes, he is confident his side, featuring a blend of youth and experience, has what it takes to more than hold its own in the NWCFL top flight.
"I was really pleased with our performance on Tuesday, especially since it was was only the second time the lads have played together," he said
"We addressed certain things from the 1-0 loss away to Burnley Belvedere the week before and showed improvement.
"They showed that they are listening to what they are being told, namely about defending corners, when to apply pressure and getting lads in one-on-one with the opposition. Their attitude is spot on.
Against Clitheroe Egan introduced 17-year-old centre back Kyle Ingham, who is in the third and final year of the Lancashire FA programme.
"He is very mature and composed and he'll be going for trials for the England Under 18s side, he's that good," said Egan
"I intend to bring him in when I think it will be best for both him and the club, and there's another centre back who I'd introduce, again as and when."
Rammy were in action last night at Oldham Town and return to the Riverside next Tuesday, August 3, for the visit of a Bury XI, kick-off 7.45pm.
RAMSBOTTOM v Clitheroe: Andrews, Raywood, Skarret, Blackley, Ingham, Denning, Purcell, Buggie, Saunders, Swailes, McKay. Subs: McCool, Morley, Rispen.
