I WONDER if any readers have noticed the posters put up by Bury Council, advertising Bury in Bloom and asking people to report any litter or overgrown areas.
Some years ago, the council carried out work in Philips Park, Whitefield, which at the time caused uproar among people who visited the park. This page carried quite a few letters of complaint at the time. The flower garden was completely destroyed and the council of the time said the work was to return the park to the appearance of a Victorian garden.
I would suggest that someone from the council now visits the park to see what a mess it is in. None of the promises has been kept. The park is a tip.
Does Bury in Bloom only apply in Bury town centre? The gardens there are a credit to the gardeners; it is a pity the same standard did not apply to Philips Park. Would someone please restore the park to one that we can be proud of, not one we are ashamed of.
