A MOPED rider was knocked off his machine by a motorist overtaking 'blind'.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Syed Quisin Hussain pulled out when the car in front slowed unexpectedly.
But he did not realise the car was waiting for the moped to turn right.
After colliding with the bike, Hussain panicked and drove off.
Hussain, 20, of Oxford Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident.
He was fined a total of £500 with £50 costs and his licence endorsed with 10 penalty points.
Christiana Buchanan, prosecuting, said the moped rider, David McAllister, hurt his back, neck, shoulder and thigh in the accident in Bennington Street.
Although Hussain left the scene without stopping witnesses took his registration number and he was quickly traced by the police.
Michael Singleton, defending, said Hussain had not been able to see the moped, which was turning into Crossfield Street and was obviously the reason for the vehicle in front slowing down.
"He must accept that the standard of his driving fell below that expected of a competent driver," said Mr Singleton.
