I AM a resident in the Brandlesholme area, the location for a proposed mobile phone mast, and would like to thank Mr David H. Foss for his letter in the Bury Times (July 20). His knowledge is greatly valued by me and by others.

It comes as no great surprise to me that the council are being accused by Mr Foss of acting "illegally". This proposed mast would be too near Byrom Street, especially houses 6, 8, 10 and 12, where I believe there are small children living.

Why didn't councillors Mrs Bigg and Mrs Creswell know what Mr Foss knows? And why wasn't it mentioned at the church hall meeting which residents attended? Maybe these councillors can get this mast stopped for the sake of the children.

As for the Government reportedly receiving £22 billion from the mobile phone companies, I hope they invest it well because they will need every penny to meet the compensation claims.

I hope Bury's chief planning officer saw Mr Foss's letter and heeds his advice. We will be watching and, if necessary, will take legal action ourselves.

LAYMAN,

St James Avenue, Bury.
