CELEBRITIES from Emmerdale and Coronation Street put aside their TV ratings rivalry yesterday to raise money for charity.

Stars from both soaps joined the same football team and joined in a football tournament at Colne FC's ground in aid of the NSPCC.

The event was organised by the Burnley and Pendle branch of the children's charity with the help of Brierfield Celtic FC, who also entered a team in the tournament.

It was a team of former Clarets players that won the competition after a tense penalty shoot-out.

The efforts of all teams helped to raise more than £2,000 for the NSPCC which will be spent helping children and young people in Burnley and Pendle.

Rita Walsh, the secretary of the Burnley and Pendle branch of the charity, said: "I just want to say a big thank you to everyone involved who gave their time and who donated money.

"They can be assured that all the money will be used to help children in the local area, which is what happens with any money raised by the Burnley and Pendle branch.

"We are greatly indebted to Brierfield Celtic for their help in organising the football side of things."

She added: "The celebrities from Emmerdale and Coronation Street were fabulous, they signed autographs and had their pictures taken.

"Everyone had a brilliant day."
