double
success
DARWEN enjoyed two comprehensive victories over Leyland Motors as the sun shone on Birch Hall this weekend.
On Saturday they took 12 points in a Northern Premier League encounter winning by eight wickets.
Then yesterday they won by 10 wickets in the Thwaite's Smooth Cup.
In their league encounter Neil Cordingley was the star turn as he claimed four wickets in a ten over spell as Leyland were ousted for just 72 runs - the target being comfortably reached.
In the cup clash Motors again batted first and, while they set a stiffer target, John Cordingley and Jackson came to the fore with rapid-fire half centuries to secure victory.
Chorley enjoyed an impressive 47 run win over Leyland with teenager Tom Smith the inspiration.
He opened the innings and hit 89, gaining support from professional Stephen John, who hit 44, as Chorley set 216-9.
Leyland battled but struggled to match the pace and were finally bowled out in the 55th over for 169 - Billy Smith taking 3-27 and John 4-21.
