A DOUBLE dose of league action at the weekend brought little joy to local clubs, with only Preston managing to win a game.
That was on Sunday at Leyland Motors where professional Raouf Akbar (4 for 44) and Sam Seadon (4 for 49) did the damage as the Motors were bowled out for 150.
The only home batsmen to shine were skipper Dave Makinson (24), and Andrew Makinson with 36.
In reply Preston lost both openers fairly cheaply, and it was left to Ian McDonnell (43) and Sam Seadon with an unbeaten 50 to claim the points for Preston.
The day before, Preston had lost to Fleetwood by four runs. Batting first the visitors were bowled out for 167, with professional Doug Marillier (76) and John Whalley (53) the top scorers. Cumberland all rounder Sam Seadon took 4 for 43.
In reply Preston's openers Bavla (37) and Southall (28) had the home side off to a promising start but Fish with six wickets for 53 and Marillier with four wickets for 30 ripped through the home side's batting with only pro Akbar (41) offering any resistance.
A century by professional Atif Ashraf could not prevent Motors being beaten on Saturday after they scored 199 for 5 in their game at St Annes. Motors had the home side in trouble early on getting both openers out for a duck. Adams (28) and Davies (23) steadied the ship then Bradley (69) and Whalley 45 not out took the home side to 204 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Bottom club Leyland played hosts to Blackpool in a rain affected game at Fox Lane on Saturday, and were bowled out for 81, Steve Pallet top scored with 23. Steven Croft returned a fine 4 for 9 off 7.
Blackpool passed the total for the loss of 5 wickets. On Sunday, Leyland travelled to Darwen and once again were soundly beaten. Batting first the home side reached 240 for 2 with West Indian pro Keith Semple on 106 not out and G Cordingley 81 not out at the finish.
Leyland were bowled out for 101 with opener Aidan Walsh top scoring with just 19.
All three local clubs are at home on Saturday, Preston to Darwen, Leyland to Morecambe and Motors to Blackpool.
