MUSIC lovers were left disappointed at the weekend as rain put paid to a jazz festival in Preston.
Thirteen acts were due to perform jazz, funk and soul numbers at the Jazzin The Park event on Sunday in Avenham Park. Organisers estimated there would be crowds of up to 5,000.
But the event was cancelled after torrential downpours turned the park into a quagmire.
The previous day's music event, Live in the Park, went ahead, but only around 250 spectators turned out to see 14 local indie, and rock bands.
Musician Matt Cogley, who appeared with Preston band Failsafe, said: "There may have only been 250 people there but it was a great day and we really enjoyed it.
"This kind of event is what Preston needs and we think it's great that someone took the time to organise it in the first place. We hope its success grows in years to come."
Organisers of the fourth annual Jazzin The Park were keeping their fingers crossed for good weather for the eight hour music marathon, but had to cancel late on Saturday night.
It was supported by organisations including Preston City Council, Preston City Centre Management, AvenCentral and The Mill.
