ALARMINGLY, our cat population is spiralling out of control. We are now in a situation where there are too many cats and not enough homes for them all.
Sanctuaries, charities and shelters are bursting at the seams with cats who need re-homing and many more are living as homeless strays.
May I please appeal to all cat owners to act responsibly by making sure your cat is neutered/spayed.
This important operation can be carried out at any age in the cats life from 5/6 months old and contrary to what some people think, it is not good for a female cat to have 'just one litter' and most kittens do not find good homes.
Many become unwanted and homeless, suffering a life of misery, hunger and disease and, of course, this is how feral colonies start.
Neutering a male is equally important.
The majority of cats killed on the road are unneutered males struck down in their search for females.
Please be a responsible cat owner and help keep our cat population under control and healthy.
