RESIDENTS determined to save their Darwen homes from demolition took their fight one step further last night by setting up a working party.
Eleven people, representing Sudell Road, Redearth Street, Star Street and Hannah Street in Darwen, put forward their names during a packed meeting which saw almost 200 people attend Highfield Working Men's Club.
They will represent residents opposing any demolition scheme and plan to organise a letter- writing campaign to stop the compulsory purchase of their homes.
As part of the East Lancashire-wide Elevate regeneration scheme, the houses in Redearth Street are marked for demolition, although a decision has still to be made on the future of the surrounding streets.
