Brian Kidd
Blackburn Rovers 1999-2000
I didn't play very well in the first few months here and got a couple of injuries. That type of thing makes you feel indebted to the manager.
You feel a responsibility and everyone plays a part in managers getting the sack. The whole club is responsible and the team certainly is because of the results.
I just wanted to play a bit better for him really, but Brian was always trying to help me and was brilliant like that.
If you came off injured on the training ground you'd be saying, 'sorry gaffer' and he'd say, 'don't worry, son, get yourself right and it will come'.
There was so much pressure for Rovers to come straight back up that year after going down and he paid the ultimate price.
Maybe he was trying to please everyone. Neil Warnock always liked to keep sides happy but he had a vicious side to him.
Also, he had a settled side but Brian had two players for every position and tried to do the Man United thing of rotating, so he chose the side too many times and it didn't work.
But he's a great coach.
