WORK has started on the £1.5million makeover of Marsden Park, Nelson.
The park is being restored to its former glory thanks to money from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, Pendle Council, and other sources.
It will take until 2008 to complete the restoration, but this week work started on a new children's play area.
The play area is expected to be finished in September and is the first of 13 projects to be carried out in the park over the next four years, including the renovation of Marsden Old Hall, which dates from 1650. More information about the restoration is available at the Marsden Park marquee at the Great Outdoors Day in the park, this Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
There will also be face-painting, henna-painting, owl and hawk displays, a climbing wall, charity stalls, fairground rides, a bouncy castle, and circus skills workshop.
