I WOULD like to respond to the small article by P Broadley, Feniscowles "Once a fortnight is just rubbish" (July 28).
Halleluiah! P Broadley, I totally agree with you. A rubbish collection fortnightly is completely unacceptable. As residents in Blackburn with Darwen, we are asked to pay exorbitant taxes, which we do. We have been asked to recycle, which we do, but for a town that is aspiring to city status a rubbish collection every fortnight is a truly medieval concept.
If anything, rubbish should be collected twice a week!
We hear that Blackburn with Darwen Council is at war against rats infestation, but for sure, when we find bins overflowing with decaying matter with lids that cannot be closed properly because the bins are too full. This is going to be a magnet for rats, more so in a town with a canal.
Many elderly people also find it extremely difficult to wheel a totally full bin because it is too heavy.
So please, councillors, let's recycle but let's go back to weekly collection.
G WOODBURN, Cherry Tree, Blackburn.
