BURY escaped relatively unscathed from Tuesday's thunderstorms.
A small section of Croft Lane in Hollins suffered minor subsidence as a result of heavy rain while roads and motorways throughout the borough were turned into a streams, making driving hazardous.
Raw sewage was brought to the surface in Kenyon Street, Ramsbottom, while houses in nearby Crow Lane were at risk from a build up of water close to the Army Cadet centre. Ramsbottom fire crews successfully dealt with both problems.
A large metal digger bucket and bags of rocks, being used to improve the River Irwell in Ramsbottom, were washed away by a torrent of water as the river threatened to burst its banks.
Fire fighters in Bury and Whitefield and Ramsbottom helped colleagues in Heywood, Rochdale and Bolton clear localised flooding.
