RESIDENTS in and around Brunswick Street, Bury, are being warned to remain vigil after a bogus caller conned his way into the home of an elderly couple.
A man of Afro-Caribbean appearance called at the house on Tuesday. The occupiers, aged 82 and 79 allowed him to enter and he then asked about their medication before leaving.
Police said no property was taken but the victims were left in a distressed state after releasing the caller was bogus and looking to steal from them.
PC Ken Royles from Bury police said: "This incident is a timely reminder for residents, particularly the elderly, to be remain wary of unexpected and unknown callers.
"Always ask to see the caller's ID card. If you are still in any doubt, do not allow them entry and ring the company they claim to represent to confirm the visit. Authentic company representatives will understand and wait outside."
