I WISH this was the first time I have felt the need to write to the Bury Times about the chaos that Bury Football Club can create among its supporters and visitors, and their complete disregard for them. Sadly, it is not.
Every year we are asked to purchase season tickets before the end of the current season. We are told that the benefit is a massive saving on cost and that we are helping the club to get through the summer. Like fools, we believe them and, despite the fact we are already paying to watch the team, we dig deep and pay again in advance.
I paid for season tickets myself and my two sons. Three months after paying I found out that I could have bought my tickets at the same price right into July, August and beyond.
Then we had the fiasco of when Manchester City FC and their fantastic supporters turned out in force for a pre-season friendly and probably trebled the average gate receipts.
They found -- to my estimation -- 2,000 fans locked out for more than 30 minutes, with empty seats inside the stadium. Someone, apparently, had come up with the brainwave to pre-sell tickets but forgot to cater for them at the turnstile. Hence hundreds of ticket-holders couldn't get into the stand they had bought tickets for.
They then had to join a 30-yard queue to get a refund and then join another 30-yard queue to enter the ground in a different section, or go home -- which is what many did.
If this is the new match-day experience Bury are promoting, I suggest they don't ask Manchester City supporters for a reference. We Bury fans have seen it all before!
BURY FOREVER
