BIG game hunting in Africa should by now, be as out-dated as the rigid class system of which it was so much a feature. Alas, it isn't.
In South Africa it continues in the form of "canned hunts" which involve an animal, usually a lion or a leopard, being doped then confined to a small area where it is shot by "hunters". These so-called hunters are usually wealthy Americans or Europeans. If wildlife must "pay its way" then surely it is more humane and progressive that this be done through eco-tourism, rather than the bullet.
If anyone feels as strongly as I do about this issue, will they please write in protest to: The High Commission for the Republic of South Africa, South Africa House, Trafalgar Square, London WC2N.
