CHRIS Davies, in his recent Letter from Europe, confirms my contention that the only response to those so-called sceptics concerned about the EU generally, and the constitution specifically, is to be told that we are talking nonsense.

On this occasion, Chris Davies even refers to the "pro-Euro babble". Somehow he excludes himself from the "babblers", while at the same time insinuating that all intelligent people would realise how beneficial European membership would be if they were made fully aware of the advantages to Britain.

He even contends that acceptance of the constitution would be good for us.

The Euro-babblers, Chris Davies included, go on about being "at the heart of Europe", while in the enlarged EU we have 78 MEPs out of 732. He talks about secrecy but never tells us how he voted, or how he earns his £72,000 per year and more than £7,400 pension after five years.

For instance, how did he vote if he had the chance to on ending the embargo on supply of arms to China and Libya, in contravention of the Non-Nuclear Proliferation Treaty?

I recommend that he read Ruth Lea's The Essential Guide to the EU , which traces its history since its inception in 1951, from the ECSC and Euratom. When he has read that, and has convinced me that it is nonsense, I might believe him.
