A MAN accused of attacking his former girlfriend's car with a Samurai sword after rumours of a three-in-a-bed romp with two of his friends walked free from court.

Tyldesley man Lee Weatherilt's former partner had alleged that he caused £300 worth of damage to her car and threatened to kill her, but a Liverpool Crown Court jury on Friday cleared him of all the charges.

When police went to his home after the alleged attack they found he had a collection of martial arts weapons and also a CS cannister and a pellet gun.

Weatherilt, 24, pleaded guilty to possessing the gas canister and an imitation firearm and was fined a total of £500.

The judge allowed him to keep the sword but after leaving the courtroom he decided to hand it back to police.

During the trial, the jury heard that Weatherilt had split from his girlfriend Lois Welsh before the incident, but on February 1 he was in a nightclub when he heard allegations that she had been in bed with two of his friends.
