VICTORIAN values are coming to playtime at Helmshore Textile Museum later this month.
During the last week of August children will be able to play with toys and learn playground games that were popular 150 years ago.
The Playdays project is aimed at primary school-age youngsters and was prompted by research that showed few children have experience of the games that older people remember from their school days.
Many of these games originated in Victorian times and the project aims to encourage children away from television and computer games and back to more creative play.
Among the Victorian games will be the whip and top, cup and ball and skittles as well as playground games like 'statues' and 'tig'.
The Playdays week takes place immediately before the August Bank Holiday when the museum will be holding a two day Victorian event. Organisers hope the games might filter back into the modern day playground for the start of the school term.
