AFTER a thorough investigation by the Standards Board for England, and recently by the Standards Committee of Bury MBC, councillors Taylor and Bibby have finally been brought to book. They have been found guilty of a serious breach of the National Code of Conduct for Councillors, a code designed to "clean up" local government and restore confidence in local democracy.
This is a serious matter and reflects not just on Messrs Bibby and Taylor but, indeed, all concerned with local government.
At a time when the electorate in general holds politicians in low esteem, cases like these deepen people's mistrust. If they had any honour or integrity they would resign immediately.
E. D. TAYLOR
