"LEAVE the car at home and join us on the ultimate travel experience". That is the invitation on the back of Rossendale Transport buses, but after my recent experience I certainly won't be accepting again!
I and my two daughters travelled to Bury and everything was OK. But on the return journey we got "the driver from hell".
I have never come across such an arrogant and nasty person. We hadn't even stepped on the bus before he demanded to see my 13-year-old daughter's pass. What pass? I wouldn't mind if she even looked 16.
The driver didn't explain that it was a new rule but, if it was, why were we not asked on the way in to Bury? No, this driver wanted to cause a scene and humiliate me and my family in front of others. He was just out for an argument. He insisted my daughter pay full fare or get off and I was adamant she wasn't going to pay. In the end she caught another bus and had no problem at all.
As I was getting off the bus I asked the driver for his name but he refused and, again, became abusive.
I complained to the bus company but am still awaiting an apology. I was told there are notices on the buses regarding these passes but there was none on the bus I was travelling on.
I urge parents to get one of these passes to avoid the possibility of their teenage children being out late at night and not being allowed on a bus. As for me, I won't be leaving the car at home again.
DISGRUNTLED AND
HUMILIATED
