LEIGH referee Karl Evans has won a double promotion honour.
The 25-years-old member of the Leigh and District Association Football Referees' Society who picked up the whistle at the age of 17 has stepped up to the national list of football league assistant referees in addition to his promotion to the football conference referees' register.
Society secretary Duncan Tighe said: "This is no mean achievement. Karl joined us at 17 and has worked hard and given great prestige to the society as a whole by his achievements.
"There were only seven promotions nationally so his elevation is excellent."
The society is organising a course on the laws of the game for potential refs, coaches and anyone involved in the sport. They will take place in central Leigh on September 8 and October 2.
