BURNLEY may be facing overwhelming odds against winning the Coca-Cola Championship this season, but one diehard fan has placed his faith in the team by betting £1,000 they will clinch the title.
Steve Cotterill's men have been written off by pundits and are among the favourites for relegation, following last season's basement battle.
However, a good start to the season has brought two draws and a win in their first three fixtures.
The mystery gambler, who placed the grand bet with Ladbrokes last week, stands to pick-up a staggering £200,000 if the Clarets pull off the shock of the season and win the title. Following the bet Ladbrokes has slashed the odds on Burnley winning the title from 200-1 to 150-1. The firm said it had also seen a number of three-figure bets at odds of 6-1 on the team winning promotion.
Rob Hutchinson, of Ladbrokes, said: "We have seen a number of wagers on the three relegated teams, but we have seen a surprising amount on Burnley, with one fan in particular putting a serious amount of money where his mouth is.
"They've had their detractors over the months so it's good to know they still have a loyal band of followers."
