Rochdale Reserves 4 Burnley Reserves 1

MARC Pugh's second goal in 24 hours was not enough to earn Burnley reserves a draw despite a brave second half fightback.

Wide man Pugh, who scored for the Clarets in Stan Ternent's testimonial game on Tuesday night, led the charge for Mark Yates second string with a 53rd minute penalty after Dale had deservedly led 2-0 at the break through goals from Seamus Brown and Kevin Gibbins.

After that, Burnley had their hosts on the rack but missed several good chances to force an equaliser.

Reserve team boss Mark Yates said: "I was pleased with the second half performance and I just think we got a bit of a reaction to Tuesday night, when a lot of the lads played

"We had some great chances in the second half and played with real belief.

"The end scoreline is harsh, but we tried to nick something at the end and at least the young lads had a go.

"So I'm pleased with the second half performance, but if there's a lesson to be learned it's that we have to be up for a game right from the word go."
