LEIGH Miners Rangers kick off the new Premier Division season with a match against defending champions Siddal on Friday, kick off 7.30pm.

Having won the Super Cup for the first time since 2001, and with a strong squad that includes BARLA captain Tommy Goulden and David Patterson, alongside new recruit Paul Wilcox and existing stars Alan Redicliffe, Darren Pilkington and Dave Radley, Miners are fancied for a strong season.

Siddal will provide the toughest of tests. They are two-times champions and are bacjed to do well again despite the departures of ex-Super League duo Mick Shaw and John Lawless.

They have retained mercurial half-bacl Liam Walsh and with strength in depth will be a contender again.

Excatley 12 months ago they travelled to Twist Lane and left with the spoils despite an early sending off. Now it is pay-back time and if the Miners can hit the ground running they are capable of taking maximum points off the champions from Halifax.
