A BUSINESSMAN has failed in his bid to open a new takeaway in Darwen.
Syed Uddin, of Fountain Street, Accrington, asked Blackburn with Darwen Council for permission to open a shop in Duckworth Street.
But following residents' objections, it was refused because councillors felt it would lead to an "over concentration" producing an unacceptable impact on the street's character.
At a planning meeting last year, councillors gave permission for a new Chinese takeaway to be opened, despite a petition signed by 522 people.
There are now more than 30 takeaways in Darwen, almost half of them situated along the A666.
