ALL new council tenants will be on probation for a year.
In an effort to combat neighbour nuisance and anti-social behaviour, Wigan Council and Wigan & Leigh Housing have agreed to bring in 'introductory' tenancies for future tenants.
A trouble-free 12 months will guarantee residents secure tenancy at the end of that period -- anything less and the tenant's future will be in doubt.
Introductory Tenancies apply to all new lettings (with certain exceptions) and should the agreement be breached, and such a breach be deemed serious enough, the council can apply to the courts to have the tenant evicted
Wigan & Leigh Housing Chief Executive, Peter Gee said: "We are committed to dealing effectively with neighbour nuisance and anti-social behaviour on council estates.
"We listened to the concerns of our tenants and residents, and they agree that an introductory period for all new tenants could only be beneficial in the long term."
