ATHERTON Collieries began their new season in the NWCFl with two fixtures in three days.
They got off to a dream start winning 2-0 away at Curzon Ashton. Jack Peters and Paul Thompson got the all important goals, but they had to thank a resolute defence in the second half to clinch the points
Last Monday night Colls were at home to Skelmersdale United, going down 3-2, but it was a match which was decided by two penalty kicks.
Lee Bowles conceded a penalty for the home side on 17 minutes being sent off in the process. The same thing happened at the other end, and Nicky Fisher equalized for Colls.
Colls went 3-1 down as the extra man took its toll. The local side pulled a goal back late on, but it wasn't enough.
Colls are in action at Alder House this Saturday when neighbours Ramsbottom United are the visitors.
