STARS of the silver screen and television will descend on Preston in the next few months for the glittering world premiere of new British comedy, Chicken Tikka Masala.

The star-studded event will attract a spicy mix of more than 800 red carpet regulars, television stars and local dignitaries including British film supporter and Oscar winning director and actor Sir Richard Attenborough.

They will be treated to a first showing of the comedy, made by Seven Spice Productions, and a lavish post-show party with a sumptuous meal at the Guild Hall, Lancaster Road, Preston, to toast the success of the Brit flick.

The film follows the Chopra family and gay son, Jimi, played by former Coronation Street star Chris Bisson, who is getting married despite a secret love for Jack.

It also features former Footballer's Wives star Peter Ash and former Coronation Street actress, Sally Bankes, who played a girlfriend of Fred in the hit soap.

Thousands of locals could also see their face in the frame during the movie's wedding scene, filmed at the Gujurat Hindu Centre, South Meadow Lane, and a scene filmed at Preston North End, Deepdale.

The premiere has been pencilled in for October with the screening taking place at the city's Charter Theatre. A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed.

Sanjay Tandon, producer for Seven Spice, said: "It will be a fabulous event and great to have the premiere in Preston because so many people from the city have been involved in it and so many have helped make it happen."

Allan Baker, general manager of the city's Guild Hall, said: "It's a great thing for the Guild Hall and for the people of Preston because they have given their time during the making of the film and now they're getting something back by being the first ones to see it."
