THE Citizen has teamed up with Lancashire Road Safety Partnership to let readers know where mobile speed cameras will be situated during the coming week.

It is part of the partnership's plan to raise awareness and end speculation that speed cameras are used to raise revenue.

Although the information is available on its website, Linda Sanderson, communications manager for the partnership, said the latest campaign targets areas identified as being problematic for speeding motorists. "We have always said we will be upfront about the position of cameras," she said. "The use of mobile speed cameras is to save lives and reduce casualties, not to make money."

The hi-tech mobile speed cameras are mounted in six people carrier cars and two motorcycles, and operated by civilian technicians.

Mobile cameras will be at the following sites until Sunday.

Preston: Cottam Way; Garstang Road near the M6, Inglewhite Road; Navigation Way; Preston New Road, Samlesbury; Preston Road, Longridge and Grimsargh; Ribbleton Hall Drive; St Vincent's Road; and Whittingham Lane.
