A GROUNDWORK action group who had spent hours clearing rubbish from the River Irwell, pleaded with local residents to keep it clean.

Rubbish including a child's rocking horse was pulled from the water at Rawtenstall by the eight clean-up volunteers from Groundwork Rossendale.

Also removed were large tree branches, household junk and lots of waste paper and polystyrene.

IT was discovered that the past of the old Clayton-le-Moors Baptist Church, Atlas Street, was all bottled up when a demolition crew removed a foundation stone to find a glass container full of church documents.

The glass toffee bottle contained documentation dating before the 1900's and was to be sent unopened to the Baptists who had moved to a new church in Sparth Road earlier in the year.

ROVERS fans blasted the directors of the club after they refused to renew a parking permit for three men who had one leg between them.

The men who had been driven to the Ewood ground car park for many years would have been forced to cross Bolton Road twice to get to and from matches.
