AN 86-year-old man was recovering in hospital today after being knocked down on a busy road.
Peter Burgess, of Blacksnape Street, Darwen, was being treated for head injuries head and a broken ankle after the accident in Railway Road at midday yesterday.
Police said he stepped out across stationary traffic and into the path of a car, smashing his head on the windscreen.
A police investigation has been launched, although police said the driver was not thought to be travelling at excessive speed.
Mr Burgess was today being treated at Blackburn Royal Infirmary. His injuries were not initially thought to be life-threatening, but his condition worsened yesterday afternoon and caused concern.
However, by late evening he had been transferred to a high dependency unit after he stabilised and improved.
