SPECULATION over who will switch on this year's Illuminations is growing, after BBC Radio 2 unveiled the supporting line-up for the September 3 event.

Jimmy Osmond will be among the musical stars entertaining the crowds that evening, prompting rumours that brother Donny may join him for the all-important 125th Lights switch-on.

Television hypnotist Derren Brown is also understood to be filming in town that week, sparking yet more switch-on speculation.

Although Blackpool Tourism bosses and the BBC are staying tight-lipped, they have indicated they will announce the special celebrity 'in the next few days'.

They have already unveiled the complete line-up for the event, to be fronted by the station's youngest presenter, Bolton born Mark Radcliffe, and broadcast live on Radio 2.

He will welcome on stage chart-topping boy band McFly, who already have two number one hit singles under their belt, plus hit-maker Lemar from TV's Fame Academy, former Savage Garden lead singer Darren Hayes and eighties hit band Swing Out Sister.

Jimmy Osmond will join comedian Billy Pearce and the Boogie Nights cast to add a dash of seventies glamour to the proceedings. The event will take place in Radio 2's own specially built temporary arena, behind the Golden Mile.

Cllr Eddie Collett, Blackpool's cabinet member for regeneration and tourism, added: "Once again Blackpool and BBC Radio 2 are set to stage a night to remember with something for the many generations of Blackpool Illuminations visitors and residents."
