JOHN Coleman has urged his side to start as they mean to go on.

The Accrington Stanley chief was delighted to kick-off their away programme with three points at his former club, Morecambe, after only two successes on their travels last season.

But while the Reds are revelling in their current league position - second only to Dagenham and Redbridge on goal difference - Coleman has warned his side not to take second bottom Stevenage for granted tomorrow.

"I hope that our lads don't underestimate Stevenage because it will be as difficult going there as what it was going to Morecambe," he said.

"If you look at the results they've had they only got beat by a penalty against Aldershot, who are a decent side themselves.

"They will see tomorrow as an opportunity to get some points on the board and we've got to be at our best to stop them."

Many aspects of Stanley's initial performances have impressed Coleman, not least their work-rate.

And he enjoyed their spell at the top of the Conference, albeit brief, after Saturday's win over Burton.

"We were made up with it, even if it was only because our name does begin with an A," he smiled.

But the Reds chief is erring on the side of caution, and encouraged his players to do the same.

"We're not conscious of the league table because it won't really come into bearing for about five or six games. That's when things will settle down.

"Not many people will go to Morecambe and win, but having said that we've got a hell of a lot of hard games to come, and you can't get carried away with two wins.

"We've just got to try to win every game we play.

"The pleasing thing is that we've got an away win, which we only managed twice last season, so to oblige at the first time of asking is good.

"We don't want Morecambe to be an isolated incident. We want to win a lot of games on our travels because I'm quite confident our home form will be good."

He added: "The lads are still bubbly.

"You get into this mood and you want to play a game every day.

"I think they would have been happy to play Stevenage yesterday and they'll go there with confidence.

"They've set themselves a standard now. They've shown us the style of football they can play, they've shown us that they can adopt the system we want them to do.

"When they stop doing that we will be disappointed, so they've got to live up to our expectations."

Rory Prendergast is available after injury and a two-match suspension, which was carried over from last season.

But the winger may have a battle on his hands to forge his way back into the starting line-up.

"We'll check on his injury leading up to the game," Coleman said.

"But what he should have picked up on is how hard you're going to have to work to get into the team.

"That doesn't just apply to Rory, it applies to everybody.

"I've been pleased with the effort the lads have put in, as well as those who haven't been in the team.

"They've responded well to the other players, helping them when they can, because they know that when they get their chance they'll expect the same."

AN American University side will play a mixed Stanley side at the Interlink Express Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 12pm.

The Americans are currently on tour in the UK and will play Rangers, Celtic and Manchester City as well as the Reds.
