A FYLDE council worker hopes a sponsored horse ride this Sunday (August 22) will help her raise money to go to the dogs!

Clare Holmes will lead the ride from Daisy Meadow Stables, Newton, to Salwick's Windmill pub to fund-raise for Yorkshire based charity, Tia Greyhound/Lurcher Rescue.

She explained: "Myself and my husband have got two greyhounds, Teddy and Daisy, both of which have been rescued and we support the Tia greyhound charity, based in Sowerby Bridge near Halifax.

"But the land they're on is being redeveloped at the moment, so they are trying to raise a quarter of a million pounds to buy their own premises."

The centre is over-capacity, currently caring for 70 rescued dogs, she added.

"I've asked people to get sponsors, or pay £5 to join in the ride," Clare said.

"About 10 to 12 people have taken sponsor forms, and I've invited horse riders from Willow Lodge Stables in Newton too. If I could raise £100 I'd be overjoyed.

Clare's husband, Richard, is also planning a sponsored walk from Wigan to Southport on August 29 for the charity, she said.

Anyone interested in taking part in Sunday's ride, or sponsoring riders, should contact Clare on 07976 825726.
